Top 10 Ways to Include Christ in Your Wedding Details
Wedding planning can quickly become overwhelming. From small details like choosing the music, assigning seating, and picking the perfect cake flavor, to major decisions such as selecting your bridal party and booking a venue. There’s so much to think about. In the midst of all this, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. Your marriage. This day is about the sacred promise you're making to one another before God. A covenant, not just a celebration. Yet, many couples unintentionally shift their focus away from the spiritual foundation of the day. That’s why I’ve put together a list of my favorite ways to keep Christ at the center of your wedding, so that your hearts remain focused on the One who brought you together.
Ceremony Readings
Including Scripture readings during your ceremony is a beautiful way to weave God's Word into your wedding day. Ask a loved one to read a passage that resonates with you as a couple — one that reflects your shared values and vision for marriage. These moments can be deeply meaningful and spiritually grounding. Some timeless and powerful verses to consider include:
1 Corinthians 13:4–7 – A classic passage on perfect love
Genesis 2:24 – A reminder of becoming one in marriage
Proverbs 18:22 – Honoring the gift of finding a spouse
Matthew 19:4–6 – Christ’s words on unity in marriage
Ephesians 5:25 – A call to sacrificial love
...and so many more that speak truth and life into your union.
2. Signage Galore!
While practical signs like seating charts are essential, there’s also room to incorporate meaningful Scripture into your wedding décor. Display your favorite verse on signs placed throughout your venue — near the guest book, cake table, cards and gifts, or as part of the ceremony backdrop. These subtle yet powerful reminders invite guests to reflect on God’s presence in your relationship.

3. Intentional Décor, Big and Small
Beyond signage, incorporating Christ into your décor can be both symbolic and stunning. My favorite way to do this, and also one of the most popular, is to have a cross chapped arch at your ceremony. The shape allows for drapery and flower arrangements, just like a typical rectangle or hexagon arch, but also reminds all present of the importance of Christ’s role in the day.
4. Tiny details Just for You
Ask anyone who knows me, detail photos are hands down my absolute favorite to receive after a wedding! There's something so special about seeing the little things captured so beautifully. And even better? Detail shots offer yet another opportunity to reflect your faith.
Whether it’s your Bible used as a backdrop, a cherished cross necklace wrapped around your bouquet, a rosary passed down through generations, or a meaningful verse printed on your invitation suite, these small elements can speak volumes. They not only personalize your wedding, but they also serve as powerful reminders of God’s presence in your love story.
In the end, it’s often these quiet, sacred details that carry the deepest meaning.
5. The Bible Guest Book
A Bible guestbook is a beautiful and meaningful way to involve your guests in your intentionally Christ-centered wedding. Instead of a traditional guestbook, consider purchasing a Bible, ideally one with wide margins, that will become your family Bible for years to come.
Provide a few highlighters and pens, along with a small sign inviting guests to highlight their favorite verse and write a short note in the margins. Over time, this Bible becomes more than just a book, it becomes a cherished keepsake filled with Scripture and words of encouragement from the people who love you most.
It’s a simple, lasting, and powerful way to keep Christ at the heart of your wedding and your future home.
6. Powerful Prayer
Prayer is one of the most powerful things we can do as followers of Christ and it can make a profound impact on your wedding day. Taking intentional moments to pray together as a couple helps shift your focus from the whirlwind of the day to the One who brought you together.
Whether it's the months leading up to the wedding, before the ceremony begins, during your first look, or even woven into your vows, making space for prayer invites peace, unity, and reverence into your celebration. These sacred moments not only calm your nerves but also center your hearts on Christ, reminding you of the life-long covenant you're stepping into.
7. More Prayer!!!
While praying with your future spouse is essential, prayer with others is just as powerful. Inviting your community into moments of prayer on your wedding day creates a beautiful spirit of unity and blessing over the entire celebration.
Pray with your bridal party to calm any nerves and center your hearts. Pray with your parents as you step into a new chapter of life. Pray with your pastor for blessing and spiritual covering. And don’t forget to pray with your guests as a blessing over the meal or during a moment of intentional reflection in the ceremony.
Here at FEC, we love taking time to pray with our couples before the day begins. It’s one of the sweetest and most sacred ways to start a wedding day, by inviting God into every moment.
8. Unity Ceremonies
Unity ceremonies are a beautiful way to symbolize the joining of two lives into one, not just with each other, but with Christ at the center. These moments go beyond tradition when they’re rooted in spiritual meaning, serving as a visible reminder of the covenant you’re making before God.
Some popular Christ-centered unity ceremony ideas include:
Cord of Three Strands Ceremony – Inspired by Ecclesiastes 4:12, this involves braiding three cords together, representing the bride, the groom, and Christ. It's a powerful symbol of strength found in a Christ-centered marriage.
Unity Candle – Two candles representing each of you are used to light one central candle, signifying your new life together. Consider adding a Scripture reading or short prayer during this moment.
Foot Washing – A beautiful act of humility and service, just as Jesus modeled. Washing each other’s feet during the ceremony is a tangible expression of servant-hearted love and mutual submission.
No matter which unity ceremony you choose, the key is to make it meaningful and reflective of your faith — a moment where your guests witness not just a union, but a covenant built on Christ.
9. Communion
Including communion in your wedding ceremony is a deeply powerful way to honor Christ and acknowledge His presence in your marriage. As your first act together as husband and wife, taking communion symbolizes your shared faith, your gratitude for Christ’s sacrifice, and your desire to build your life on Him. This moment can be quiet and intimate — just the two of you, your officiant, and the Lord — or it can be expanded to include your guests as a shared expression of worship. Either way, it shifts the focus from the celebration to the covenant, reminding everyone that your union is grounded in something far greater than yourselves.
10. Worship
What better way to begin your marriage than by lifting your voices in worship? Including worship in your wedding, whether during the ceremony or reception, is a beautiful way to shift the focus from the celebration of your love to the One who gave you that love in the first place.
You might choose to open your ceremony with a worship song, have a moment of singing after your vows, or even include a worship set before communion or your unity ceremony. Some couples invite a live worship band, while others use an instrumental or recorded version of a favorite song. The key is choosing music that reflects your heart for Christ and invites everyone present to join in glorifying Him.
